Network Rail removing railside trees

Tree removal rear of Ella Street gardens

Network Rail has begun the removal of all the trees either side of the railway that backs onto Ella Street. This includes the whole variety of trees to be found there like ash and hawthorn.

This is a great loss of natural habitat in what is supposed to be a conservation area. Just what reasons area Network Rail giving for this ecological destruction?
