Dear
Ratbiter,
A
warm welcome to yourself and Eye readers dropping in.
What
august company you have me mixing with this week! (Private
Eye 1224, p9)
I’m unsure what you mean by
“Green conspiracy theories”! Have conspiracy theories
been colour-coded perhaps in my absence? Maybe like the
colour codes for the latest security alerts to remind us
to cower in fear?
Before
we begin, a couple of factualities. I’m not a Green
Party candidate. I have been before and hope to be again
but right now I’m local secretary. The actual Conference
vote you refer to (2006), on supporting the US Green Party
call for a new investigation of 9/11, did gain a majority.
However, as an Emergency Motion requiring a 2/3 vote, it
fell. You also rather imply that I blame the CIA and the
Mossad for 9/11, which I don’t.
My problems with 9/11
is not as a “conspiracy theorist” but actually from an
historical point of view.
There
is a tremendous amount of evidence that cannot be
shoehorned into the official story.
Even
the officials have problems with the official story!
Tapping away at your typewriter in your tower,
you also
take me to task for using the internet as a research tool!
You may be missing out on the extremely lively online
scene, 24 hour reporting, the world’s media at
one’s fingertips, and many specialist journals in any
discipline often readily available even without
registration or membership. Instant reporting, instant
communication, surely it would make even your column
easier...?
(Come to think of it wasn't there an article or two very
like this a week ago on Harry's Place?)
But
you’re right to hint that one should be wary regarding
9/11 issues. There are a wide variety of sites and a large
number of theories to choose from. The crucial thing
is the evidence, the facts, stories, people speaking out,
professionals adding from their expertise. For all of your
blanket dismissal, there is a large number of people
concluding that we have been told as much official truth
on 9/11 as we were told about the need to liberate Iraq.
I
had hoped that the crime serial loving British public
would be all over the facts of 9/11, like newly energised
residents of a care home with the latest 1000 piece jigsaw,
trying to put all this together, because there is now a
large body of information on the events, and most of it in
conflict with the official account. But alas it seems we
may just want to be entertained by crime stories and minor
scandal rather than
do any work.
Or maybe people are jaded,
or despair, after the betrayal
of Iraq, where campaigning inspired the biggest
demonstration in British history, but for the people to be
betrayed by Labour MPs who believed Blair and chose war.
But
accepting blanket assurances on anything important from
the powers that be is more than a little dangerous,
don’t you think?
I
do hope you’re not that nice Mr Hislop.
I
had him down for agreeing with Michael Moore: “I don’t
believe in any conspiracy theories. Except the ones which
are true!”
A
Happy Festival of Light to all your readers.
Best
wishes,
Martin
